KO-EMS: Zen Koan Meets Child’s Poem

SAME AS my songs, KO-EMS came in from some other dimension, unbidden. The circumstance was a six-week surgical recovery. As I lay about, these little poems popped into my head, one by one—stopping at thirty.

I named them KO-EMS because each seemed to combine the essence of the austere Zen KOAN—What is the sound of one hand clapping?—with the playful innocence of a children’s POEM—The itsy-bitsy spider climbed up the waterspout…

The result was two rhyming couplets that can both twist your mind and bring a smile.

Happy contemplation.
